From the ICU to innovation — the story behind EPIphany.
Kathleen Leahy, BSRC, RRT is an accomplished sales executive, Respiratory Therapist, clinical innovator and healthcare leader with more than two decades of experience bridging medicine and technology to improve patient lives. Her career began in 1999 in pharmacy, grew through clinical care as a Respiratory Therapist in the ER, NICU and ICU, and evolved into leadership roles in remote patient monitoring, diagnostics and specialty therapeutics.
Over the years, Kathleen has supported thousands of patients across cardiology, infectious disease and hematology while serving in executive roles and consulting for emerging healthcare technology companies. Her early work in remote patient monitoring — overseeing 400+ patients daily and helping reduce hospital readmissions at UTSW by 65%—sparked her passion for the power of data, AI and human-centered design in healthcare.
In 2023, Kathleen’s mission became deeply personal when her daughter was diagnosed with epilepsy. Navigating the fragmented neurology landscape opened her eyes to the profound gaps in education, support and resources available to epilepsy families—gaps that did not exist in other therapeutic areas such as oncology.
Driven by both professional insight and a mother’s determination, Kathleen founded EPIphany, a nonprofit committed to transforming epilepsy care by bridging modern tools, technology and support systems to patients and families who have long been overlooked.
Under her leadership, EPIphany partners with clinicians, researchers, technologists and nonprofits to accelerate diagnosis, improve treatment access and deliver practical, life-changing resources to every family facing epilepsy.
Kathleen’s vision is bold but simple: to ensure families navigating epilepsy feel a sense of hope, community and support in their journeys.
